Unlock a PDF When You Know the Password

What Unlock PDF does

Unlock PDF removes the open password from a PDF when you already know that password, then gives you a copy that opens without a prompt. The usual reason on this site is an Indian document that a portal will not accept while it is still locked: an e-Aadhaar PDF from UIDAI, a bank statement, or an e-PAN. The page asks for the password once, runs QPDF in WebAssembly, and downloads the unlocked file. It does not try other passwords, word lists, or partial guesses. A wrong password stops the job and leaves your original file untouched.

You must own the file or be allowed to remove its password. Knowing the password is the whole method. There is no recovery mode for a password you have forgotten, and there is no “try common dates” option. Certificate-only encryption, some damaged files, and files larger than 32 MB are refused with a short error instead of a broken download.

The unlocked copy is still the same document. Text, images, and bookmarks that QPDF can keep stay in the file. It is not a new Aadhaar, PAN, or bank record, and a portal may still reject it for size, page count, or its own rules. Open the result once before you upload it. If the copy is large, compress it afterward. Protect PDF can add a password again if you need to send the file locked.

How to use it

1. Choose the PDF from your device. The page refuses files over 32 MB so the tab does not stall.
2. Type the password you already know. It is not put in the download name.
3. Choose Unlock and wait for the progress text. A wrong password ends the job.
4. Download the unlocked PDF and open it before you attach it to a form or an email.

The PDF and the password stay in this browser tab. They are not uploaded, not written to analytics, and not saved in local storage. The password is cleared from the form after a successful download.
