The problem
Government and recruitment portals often require a passport-style photo at exact pixel dimensions (for example 200×230 px on SSC forms) and a strict JPEG file size. A photo straight from your phone gallery fails on one or both checks, and the upload button simply rejects the file without explaining why.
Step-by-step
- Open the official notification or help PDF for your exam and note the required width, height, and maximum file size in KB.
- If you need to change dimensions first, open Resize Image, upload your photo, enter the width and height from the notification, and download the result.
- If the file is still too large, open the matching KB tool (20 KB, 50 KB, or 100 KB) and upload the resized image.
- Preview the output at full size on your screen — text on ID cards in the background should not be readable; the face should be centred and sharp.
- Upload to the portal. If rejected, re-check the notification for format (JPEG only on many forms) and try the next lower KB tool.
Common mistakes
- Uploading a PNG or HEIC file when the portal accepts JPEG only.
- Cropping with a chat app filter that changes aspect ratio or adds a border.
- Shrinking only one dimension so the face appears stretched.
- Using a group photo or a screenshot of a photo instead of the original file.
