How to Resize a Signature for Online Applications

Scan, crop, and compress a handwritten signature for recruitment and admission forms.

The problem

Signature uploads fail when the scanned image is too large, includes extra white space, or uses the wrong ink colour. UPSC requires multiple signatures in one JPEG with specific pixel height; SSC expects a small JPEG with defined cm dimensions. A phone photo of a signature on lined paper often exceeds both size and format rules.

Step-by-step

  1. Sign three times vertically on plain white paper with black ink if your notification requires it (UPSC); otherwise sign once as instructed.
  2. Scan at 200 DPI or photograph flat in good light — avoid shadows and curled paper edges.
  3. Crop tightly around the signature area before resizing (remove desk, fingers, and margins).
  4. Open Resize Signature, upload the cropped image, set the target KB from your notification, and download.
  5. Confirm width/height pixels if the form lists them; re-export if the preview looks rotated or blurred.

Common mistakes

  • Uploading a typed or digitally drawn signature when handwritten ink is required.
  • Leaving wide margins so the signature occupies less than the required frame percentage.
  • Using blue ink when the notification specifies black.
  • Uploading a PDF when the field accepts JPEG only.
