Guides, tips & FAQ

PDF to Word for editing and drafts

When you need to edit the wording in a PDF — a letter, application draft, or report — saving it as Word is faster than retyping. This tool extracts text from text-based PDFs into a .docx file locally. Scanned PDFs made of photos do not yield usable text here; those require OCR software elsewhere. Columns, tables, fonts, and images from the original layout are not preserved — only the text stream. For sharing a finished document, convert back with Word to PDF after you edit.

What this converter preserves

Note: This tool extracts text and preserves basic line structure. Complex formatting, images within tables, and advanced styling may not be perfectly preserved.

How to convert PDF to Word online
  1. Upload your PDF: Drop a text-based PDF into the dashed area or choose one from your device (up to 25MB, 50 pages).
  2. Convert in your browser: Text is extracted with pdf.js, grouped into lines, and packed into a .docx file locally — nothing is uploaded to our servers.
  3. Download the Word file: Review the result, then download. Use Try another for a different PDF.
  4. Optional — share as PDF again: After editing, convert back with our Word to PDF tool.
Layout, tables & images (honest limits)

This is text extraction, not a layout-preserving PDF engine. Expect differences with:

  • Layout and columns: Multi-column pages, floating boxes, and precise spacing from the original PDF are not reconstructed in Word.
  • Tables: A clear text grid becomes a Word table. Merged cells, nested tables, and pages without a shared column line stay as paragraphs.
  • Images: Photos, logos, and diagrams embedded in the PDF are not copied into the .docx — only text runs are exported.
  • Scanned PDFs: Pages that are photographs of paper contain no selectable text here. Use dedicated OCR software elsewhere, then edit the result.

For prose documents — letters, drafts, reports, and forms with simple text — the export is usually enough to edit wording without retyping. For design-heavy files, expect to reformat in Word after download.
