Guides, tips & FAQ
Where do rates come from?
Frankfurter (api.frankfurter.dev) publishes ECB reference rates. They update on business days and are for reference — not live FX trading prices.
What if the request fails?
We show an error and keep any session-cached quote if still fresh. We never invent or hardcode “live” rates.
Is banking data uploaded?
Only a public rate request is made. Your conversion amounts stay in the browser.
What the currency converter shows
The converter multiplies your amount by a reference rate between two currencies in the loaded table. Rates come from the Frankfurter API, which republishes European Central Bank reference rates. The page shows the rate date. It is for travel planning and rough invoice checks, not for sending money.
If Frankfurter cannot be reached, the tool reports the error. It does not substitute a made-up “live” rate. A quote cached in this tab’s sessionStorage is reused for up to an hour.
How to use it
- Enter the amount. Leave the field blank and the page waits rather than guessing zero.
- Choose the source and target currency codes. Swap them if you need the reverse direction.
- Wait until a rate date appears. Use Refresh if you want to bypass the one-hour cache.
- Compare the figure with your bank or card provider before you transfer money.
The amount stays in the page. The browser requests public reference rates from api.frankfurter.dev. No bank login is involved, and the amount is not a payment instruction.
