Guides, tips & FAQ

What is BMI?

Body Mass Index compares weight to height squared. The World Health Organization publishes adult category bands used widely for population screening — not as a complete health diagnosis.

Formulas

Metric: BMI = kg / m² | Imperial: BMI = 703 × lb / in²

Height in meters = cm ÷ 100. Imperial height can be entered as feet + inches (converted to total inches).

Worked example
  • Weight = 70 kg
  • Height = 175 cm = 1.75 m
  • BMI = 70 / (1.75 × 1.75) ≈ 22.9
  • Category: Normal weight (18.5–24.9)
